François Rieu

French Horn

Born into a family of musicians, François Rieu was born in Château-Gombert, a small village two kilometres from Marseille, France. He first studied the violin with his mother at the age of four and began playing the French horn at the age of eight. François studied at the Conservatoire in Paris with J. Rouillard and V. Dubois until 2016. He then studied at the Hochschule für Musik Basel (CH) with Prof. Christian Lampert until 2021, and finished his studies in 2023 in Hochschule der Kunste Bern (CH) still with Prof. Christian Lampert and Prof. Johannes Otter. 


From 2019 to 2022, he was low horn at the Konzert & Theater St. Gallen (CH), and founding member of the Basilea Wind Quintet. 


He has been French horn in the Symphony Orchestra & Theatre Bern since 2022.


He is frequently invited to perform with prominent Swiss orchestras, including the Opernhaus Zürich, Tonhalle Zürich, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Theater Orchester Biel-Solothurn, and City Light Symphony Orchestra.
